Isaiah 43:18-19
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
We all have an interesting story. Each of us brings something unique to this world, and we are all important. But often we get so caught up in these past moments and stay there.
I remember watching Napoleon Dynamite in middle school and seeing Uncle Rico constantly stuck in his past. His main goal in life was to get enough money to buy a time machine so that he could relive his glory days as a high school quarterback.
We do this too, in some regards. We get stuck in these past things, whether good or bad, and don't move forward.
One of my least favorite things right now, being in seminary, is starting over, having to rehash some of my past, talk about where I came from, what I studied in undergrad, what I did for fun, etc. That is an awesome way to connect with people, but what I like is using the past to create a present/future relationship.
We need to understand our past and not just brush through it, but we should not be stuck there. Whatever past mistakes we made, whatever successes we had, these are all amazing experiences. They have formed us into the people that we are today, but we cannot just be stuck there.
We must remember these former things and move into the present.
Ride the wave that God is creating for you. Keep up with the current. Don't drown. Keep swimming.
