Worship

προσκυνέω

This is the word for worship in the Greek. It is an active verb meaning that it requires action. It requires effort. It's a choice. For me, that's where it gets a little hard because many times I just think of worship as the thirty minutes before the sermon. It's supposed to get our hearts in the right place before the pastor tells us some advice about living out the rest of our week.

But shouldn't worship be a little more than that? If we choose to worship, then every moment of our lives should be worship. We should choose to worship. Because then it gets our hearts in the right place before each second of our day. So yes, worship is difficult. When we've had a really crappy day, the last thing we want to do is rejoice in the day that the Lord has made...but I think that's part of the spiritual discipline. Choosing to worship during our most painful moments.

One of my friends in college challenged every person she encountered to choose joy instead of fretting about the endless stresses of this life. I think choosing worship can lead to joy, so that's why I try to worship in everything that I do. When I'm studying for exams, reading for classes, doing my devotional, or just sitting at my computer, I try to have worship music playing. Because worship music sets my heart on my God instead of the stresses.

So instead of getting overwhelmed in the daily worries, I set my eyes on the hope that is God. I choose to worship. I actively pursue God in all that I do. I try not to compartmentalize my faith from the rest of my other activities. I worship God in all that I do. At least, that's my goal.
