Wonderful
One of the best worship songs out right now is Wonderful by Hannah Daugherty. If you haven't heard it, then look it up; it pretty much sums up all who God is: wonderful. In the song that follows it on the CD, Promises of Wonder, says, "In the darkest place, when death closes in. All his promises are yes and amen..." And that's such an awesome thing to hold onto. When everything is caving in, and when no end is in sight, God comes in. He rescues us from death. He rescues us from turmoil. He rescues us from destruction, and often, self-imposed destruction.
This might seem like a rosy-eyed overgeneralization way to look at life, but it's completely true. It's when life is super hard when we realize that we need God, or a god (whether that's alcohol, drugs, music, etc). We have been wired to look for outlets in the midst of stuff. Biologically, our bodies are not meant to last forever. Our memories fade. Our cognitive abilities dwindle. Our whole person is only going to be here for a short time. And the way we cope with this is finding a vice, or an outlet of stress. Some turn to music. Some turn to drugs. Some turn to exercise. Some turn to...(fill in the blank). But they are all empty avenues, leading towards nothing but emptiness. God patiently waits for us to come to him. He hopes that everyone comes to him, but some get stuck in self deprecating ways. (and I am not condemning alcohol, drugs, music, exercise, or anything. I just want to make the point that those things in the place of God are simply idols which do nothing but distract)
But when we finally realize that God is all that we need, we proclaim his goodness. We shout that he is wonderful. We hold onto the fact that he will get us through it all. We don't need anything in this world but God. Nothing in this world can satisfy us like being in the presence of the Most High. No job, no person, no activity can really fulfill us. And that's how God wants it to be. He is the living water that quenches all thirst. He is the well that won't run dry. He is the beginning and end. When our bodies become nothing, he will be there. He is just so wonderful. Amazing. Beautiful. And faithful. He has been rooting for mankind since the beginning, and he so desperately wants us to see that. He wants to romance us and to show us that he is wonderful.
