Psalm 33

Verse 1 says, "Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him."

It is high time that the church acknowledges the importance of praise. People should go to church not to get something out of it to proclaim that the Lord is good in all that he does. God doesn't need us to glorify him. His being is perfectly sufficient without us, impure and immoral beings, tarnishing it.

No, we go to church so that we corporately recognize the beauty of the Lord. It is the job of the people of God to sing praises to the One who deserves it. We spend plenty of time singing praises to normal people. We go to awards ceremonies. We watch the Academy Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Grammy's, VMA's, etc. Why can't we actually take an hour and a half out of one day of the week to proclaim that God is good?

There are many days where I wish to not go to church. Actually, every Sunday, I have an internal fight saying that I'll study so much better if I get just one more hour of sleep. I go to church here every day at seminary, so I don't need to go to church. I can't find a church that meets all my needs. I don't have any friends at this church. I miss my home church. I can do church online. I can pray by myself. Or my favorite, church is boring.

But the upright ones have an obligation to sing joyfully to God.

At the very least, we have a moral necessity to recognize that God is faithful.

Our very well-being is linked with God, being made by Him, so it is right and fitting to worship, because we trust in His holy name (v 21) and hope in Him (v 22). God is the author and finisher of our faith, and in him, we have salvation. The least we could do is go to church. That's my soapbox.
