Vulnerability

What does it mean to be vulnerable?

Vulnerability isn't just being an open book, expressing how you feel all the time to whoever will listen, or putting it all out there. Being vulnerable is allowing someone you trust into your life where you need him or her.

Vulnerability is about teamwork; it's the idea that where you're weak, the other is strong. And I think that's why it's so hard, in our culture at least, to be vulnerable. We don't like admitting that we are weak. We have such a high self-view, where nothing can harm us, but it's really just a facade. No one has it all together.

The strongest person in the world is someone who relies on others.

Or better yet, the most faithful person is someone who relies on God in all instances.

That's why it's so important to be vulnerable. It's the recognition that God is strong where we are weak. It's the belief that through Him, we can do all things. Not on our own. Not by ourselves.

But by the power and grace of God!

From the very beginning, God has wired mankind with the need for help. "It is not good for man to be alone..." On our own, we depreciate. We are not good on our own.

So we need to be vulnerable with each other, with God, and with ourselves. We need to recognize that we are weak, and we need help. And God wants to help. Vulnerability is about allowing someone we trust into our lives, and all our trust needs to be in God.
