I'm honestly getting sick and tired of the bickering between the charismatic and evangelical camps. With MacArthur's Strange Fire conference going on basically slamming any charismatic and Pentecostal believer saying that the movement of offering God "unacceptable worship blasphemes the Holy Spirit."
I mean, I have been a part of many "tent meetings" where it seems less like a Holy Spirit driven worship setting and more of a hyperemotional overly flamboyant rally. And I've also been to many evangelical services where the Holy Spirit is stifled by rationalism.
The last thing the body of Christ needs is division. We are all in this together, and it's stupid and petty to start fights for no reason. Slamming other methods of worshipping is silly. Mocking each other is exactly what Satan wants.
The church is not immune to the work of the enemy. I think the church is the first place that the enemy attacks because whenever we are divided and not in one accord (Acts 2), we cannot do what the Holy Spirit wants which is to usher in the presence of God. Whenever we fight with one another, the enemy wins.
So I think MacArthur has good intentions, and he might be right. Sometimes we worship more in our heart than we do with our minds. Sometimes we worship more in our minds more than our bodies.
God wants unity in our person, body, soul, and mind, in worship. And even better is when our persons can be linked others in worship because that's when Jesus shows up (Matthew 18:20).
So basically, my thoughts are this: stop with this fighting. Cut the crap, and let's really just join hands together. Each way of worshipping God is awesome. And God is awesome. He is worthy of our praise. So let's throw off everything that hinders us, whether that is pride, self-righteousness, blasphemy, etc, and join one another in unison and worship God for who he is.
