Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
This scene in the very beginning of the Bible describes the nature of God: God is good and is intimately involved in creation. From the start of this world, God has been breathing life into mankind. And it's not like He breathes life into us and leaves us to explore this world. He gives us directions. He gives us tasks to do in the day.
Laziness is rampant in American culture. If I were to ask someone what they enjoyed doing, 90% of them would respond that watching TV is their favorite thing in the world. Not walking around. Not going for a run. Not cooking. Not cleaning. Not dancing. Not reading a book. Not writing. Not eating. Not having deep conversations. And definitely not naming animals. But God has created this world, not to be exploited by mankind, but for mankind to get involved with it.
Because God wants us to work. He didn't give us breath to sit on our butts and watch TV, as fun as that may be. He didn't give us breath so that we could just be lazy. No, he gives us breath day after day for us to work. For us to actively take part in this world. Because it's up to us to be good stewards of this creation. Because it's up to us to put in the time and effort that God did. We shouldn't respond to God's grace by being idle creations.
And I know that work is hard, but that's our task. God's job is to give us breath, and it's up to us what we do with that life.
Matthew 9:37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few."
